Size Matters
This artwork offers a reflection on social hierarchy and the injustices that stem from it.
The image of a golden lobster, symbolically precious and imposing, represents the powerful or those in positions of privilege. The golden lobster embodies wealth, high social status, and perhaps even a form of injustice tied to the accumulation of resources and power by a small elite.
The small shrimp hanging above the lobster represents more modest individuals, those who struggle to get by in a society marked by social and economic inequality. The image speaks to the struggle to assert oneself in the face of dominant power structures, where the shrimp, despite its efforts, appears insignificant compared to the enormity and brilliance of the golden lobster.
The contrast between the imposing figure of the lobster and the tiny shrimp suggests the imbalance of power in society. The difference in scale in this minimalist composition serves as a critique of systems in which size, power, or wealth define a person’s worth, where the smaller or less influential are rendered invisible or oppressed.
